UNITED KINGDOM -- ICM Research, commissioned by the UK Gambling Commission to examine the gambling habits of UK citizens, released its latest findings this week, after surveying 7000 adults.
The survey covered the period up to December 2009.
Over half the participants (55.7%) said that they had taken part in at least one form of gambling in the month leading up to the survey.
It was shown that the National Lottery is still the most popular form of gambling (45.7%).
Players also took part in betting on horse races, fruit machines, slots and others.
The typical UK gambler is over 45 years of age and male.
Another set of questions commissioned by the UK Gambling Commission focused on remote gambling habits and involved 8000 participants.
Some of the key findings were:
• 10.5% of the adults said that they had enjoyed one form (at least) of remote gambling in the past four weeks. • The growth of remote gambling entertainment is around 1% per year. • 8.3% of the participants said that they bought National Lottery tickets in the past four weeks. • Most remote gamblers use computers, laptops or handheld devices. Only 2.8% used their mobile phones and even less (1.9%) used digital TV. • The typical remote gambler is between the ages of 18 - 44 and is male.
Other general findings indicated that there has been a growth of trust in gambling operators from the previous survey.
