Italian government hits the jackpot with gambling
09 March 2010

From Covers on Tuesday, March 9, 2010:
Attention, America! One of the world's most religious nations is cashing in on the growing electronic gambling craze to the tune of more than 8 billion Eros per year and is looking to make more, according to a GamblingZion.com report.

After experiencing success with online gambling's legalizaton last year, Italy has approved the use of Video Lottery Terminals (VLTs), which will allow players to place various types of wagers at up to 60,000 public terminals in 2010, the report said.

The Italian government has become increasingly dependant upon the revenue being generated by legal betting after making sweeping changes to anti-gambling laws last year, the report said, and the coming of VLTs will only increase revenues and reliance.

The United States is currently under a six-month reprieve from a federal law designed to stop online gambling while lawmakers scramble to put together a plan that would legalize Internet gambling and generate revenue to the struggling American economy.
