The Nova Scotia Gaming Foundation is pleased to be able provide funding to Community Health Boards for problem gambling initiative(s) and/or to provide funding to community organizations to undertake a problem gambling project
This is made possible through annual interest accrued from the Foundation’s Community Development Account. From 2006-2009, the interest derived from this fund was transferred to the District Health Authorities (DHAs) for distribution to Community Health Boards (CHBs) to assist with problem gambling initiatives and each CHB received a grant in the same amount.
In October 2009, the Foundation met with CHB representatives attending the 2009 CHB Conference to discuss ideas for a new funding approach. This meeting also featured a workshop
on “Addressing problem gambling using a public health/health promotion approach".
There are 37 Community Health Boards located within nine District Health Authorities across Nova Scotia.
