The Nova Scotia Gaming Foundation (NSGF) is committed to funding projects that address the unmet needs of problem gamblers, their families, and their communities in Nova Scotia. Funding is considered to qualified applicants who propose time-limited and/or self-sustaining projects in problem gambling prevention, treatment, education, remedial intervention, and research.
Community Project funding supports individuals and communities from the negative consequences of problem gambling and helps expand the knowledge base of best practices in problem gambling intervention/prevention programming in Nova Scotia.
The Nova Scotia Gaming Foundation offers two levels of community project funding:
Each level of Community Project funding has its own set of application criteria. Please see each program’s description for additional information.
Ideas for Community Projects
The Foundation encourages collaboration and innovation, and invites creative thinking in project proposals. Applicants are invited to learn from and/or consider expanding the work of past and present grant recipients. Information on past and present Community Projects can be accessed through the links on the left-hand side of this website page, or by clicking here and here.
When considering a potential community project, consider the following:
• Does it address an unmet need in the community?
• How does it benefit problem gamblers, their families and the community?
• Is there a similar project in my community? If so, how will this project build on current work to avoid duplication?
• Have all possible community partnerships been considered and have steps been taken to encourage collaboration?
• Do I have the necessary skills and training to develop, manage and implement the project? If not, can I establish partnerships with organizations that do?
