Student Scholarship Rules & Fine Print


The NSGF Student Scholarship Video Challenge invites graduating high school students in Nova Scotia to consider gambling's potential harms.
 
Eligibility Requirements
  1. Applicants must be in Grade Twelve and attending a public, private, or home school in Nova Scotia. 
  2. Applicants must be planning to attend a Nova Scotia University, Community, or Technical College in the 2011-2012 academic year.
  3. Applicants must be residents of Nova Scotia.
  4. Immediate family members of NSGF employees and board members are not eligible.

Applicants must abide by the Video Challenge's Rules or their submissions will not be considered. If you have any questions about eligibility or the rules and fine print, please contact Jen Wheatley, NSGF Communications and Events Coordinator, for clarification at jennifer.wheatley@gov.ns.ca.
 
Please carefully read the Rules & Fine Print below:
  1. Videos must follow THE SCRIPT.
  2. Videos must be no longer than 3 minutes in length, not including the two 10 second slates (entries that exceed 3 minutes will not be considered).
  3. Applicants may enter only one original video, either alone or as part of a team; multiple entries will not be accepted.
  4. Videos must be submitted in DVD-R format.
  5. Videos must begin with a 10 second full-screen slate (or title screen) that includes the following information:
                  a. Title of video entry
                  b. Name(s) of applicant(s)
                  c. School name(s)
                  d. Total running time (excluding the 10 second slate)
  6. All gambling statistics used, must be cited on a 10 second slate at the end of the video entry.
  7. Videos must be entirely the applicant(s)’s original creation.
  8. Music used in the video must be original and/or not require any additional clearances for the Nova Scotia Gaming Foundation to post it on public websites or to use it in public forums.
  9. Applicants must have all individuals who appear in the video submission sign waivers, and these waivers must be submitted with the application (please note that applicants who appear in the video do not need to sign waivers). If necessary waivers are not provided, the application will not be considered (also see Fine Print #2).
  10. The Student Scholarship Video Challenge opens on March 15, 2011. The deadline for applications is 4:00 p.m. AT on May 27, 2011. Applications sent by regular mail may be postmarked May 27, 2011.
  11. Scholarship recipients will be announced no later than September 1, 2011.

Fine Print

  1. Videos that are lewd, obscene, sexually explicit, pornographic, defamatory, or libelous will not be considered.
  2. Individuals who appear in applicants' videos must not be under a contractual relationship, including but not limited to union memberships that may prevent the NSGF from being able to use the submission in all media perpetuity on a royalty-free basis, without any payment or fee obligations.
  3. Videos must not contain or reference any company names, products, or services. They also must not contain or reference any third party trademarks, logos, or promotion of any brand, product, or service.
  4. Video submissions must not infringe upon or violate any laws or third party rights, including (but not limited to) copyright, patent, trademark, or other proprietary rights and must not lead to any cause of action against the NSGF including libel, defamation, privacy violation, contract breach, or tort.
  5. The NSGF reserves the right to disqualify any application that it believes violates or potentially violates any of the aforementioned requirements or otherwise fails to comply with any provision of these official Rules. The decisions of the NSGF on this and all matters pertaining to the 2011 Student Scholarship Video Challenge shall be final and binding.
  6. Applicants agree to hold the NSGF harmless from and against any suits, claims, losses, damages, and expenses, including reasonable attorney fees that may arise from or in connection with any applicant(s)’ submission and the use and or display of the applicant(s)’ video submission.
  7. Applicants agree that NSGF has the freedom to distribute the video submissions to the public.
