2010 Student Scholarship Essay Contest

The Nova Scotia Gaming Foundation's (NSGF) 2010 Student Scholarship Essay Contest challenges graduating high school students in Nova Scotia to think critically about Internet problem gambling as an issue relevant to Canadian youth.

AWARDS
 
Three academic scholarships will be awarded based on the quality of essay submissions:
 

First Place:     $ 2000.00

Second Place: $ 1000.00

Third Place:    $   500.00
 
 

2010 STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY TOPIC
 
Applicants must address the following topic in a 1200-word essay:
 
28% of adolescents in Nova Scotia gamble on the Internet with fake money or points, according to the Department of Health Promotion and Protection's 2008 Nova Scotia Adolescent Gambling Exploratory Research.
 
With this figure in mind, explore the potential risks of Internet gambling for youth, and discuss how their relationship to computers and technology may increase their risk of developing problems with Internet gambling.
