The Nova Scotia Gaming Foundation will host a Town Hall on Problem Gambling on Wednesday evening, September 10th, 2008 from 7:00pm until 9:00pm in the Tancook Room of the Oak Island Resort. Entitled Stepping Up to Problem Gambling, the event will feature a candid presentation by a recovering gambling addict as well as presentations by Addiction Services and the Second Story Women's Centre. Members of the general public and representatives from all "service" organizations are encouraged to attend this timely and educational presentation.
"This event is the second in a series of Town Hall presenations we are giving across the province in 2008," said Celeste Gotell, Executive Director of the Nova Scotia Gaming Foundation. "Our aim is to educate the public on the role of the Nova Scotia Gaming Foundation, to hghlight the harmful effects of gambling, to showcase the work of our grant recipients, and to inform about services available in the community. It's also a good way to meet our stakeholders first hand as we continue to encourage balanced dialogue on the issue of problem gambling in Nova Scotia," said Gotell.
A meeting of the Nova Scotia Gaming Foundation's Board of Directors will precede the Town Hall meeting. The Board of Directors will gather in the Lunenburg Room of the Oak Island Resort from 1:00pm until 4:00pm. Board members will then be on hand to greet participants at the Town Hall and to answer questions from the public.
The Nova Scotia Gaming Foundation is committed to making positive changes in the lives of individuals, families and communities affected by problem gambling. Founded in 1998 as a non-profit, arms-length government organization, the NSGF has directed millions of dollars in community and research grants to support problem gambling prevention, education, treatment, remedial intervention and the building of the problem gambling knowledge base across the province.
